ITIN Application & Renewal
Open for MFS CASH Tax Site Clients
What is an ITIN?
An ITIN is an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number only available for certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses, and dependents who cannot get a Social Security Number (SSN)
IRS issues ITINs to help individuals comply with U.S. tax laws and to provide a means to efficiently process and account for tax returns, credits, and payments.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I QUALIFY?
- You are a resident alien of the United States (Have lived 183+ days in the US) that does not qualify for a Social Security Number and have a source of income to declare on a tax return.
- You are the parents of a resident alien from Canada or Mexico that need to be claimed as dependents.
- Dependents who are the taxpayer’s son or daughter and live in the U.S.
- Spouse that does not qualify for a Social Security Number.
DOCUMENTS FOR AN ITIN APPLICATION
- Passport (stand-alone document) *
- U.S. driver’s license
- State Identification Card
- Civil birth certificate (required for dependents under 18 years of age)

*A passport is the only document that proves both identity and foreign status. For dependents, the passport must have a date of entry to be a stand-alone document, unless the dependent is from Canada or Mexico, or a dependent of U.S. military personnel stationed overseas.
