Volunteer Roles

Tax Preparer

Prepares and completes tax returns, answers tax questions
Requires approximately 40 hrs of self-paced training. Volunteer in person or virtually.

Client Facilitator

First point of contact, checks in taxpayers for appointments and helps clients make appointments by phone. Requires approximately 10 hrs of self-paced training.

Client Scheduling Specialist

Helps taxpayers schedule and manage tax preparation appointments over the phone to overcome tech barriers. Requires approximately 10 hrs of self-paced training.

Interpreter

Helps translate for taxpayers who are not proficient in English. All language skills welcome. Requires approximately 10 hrs of self-paced training.

Digital Access Guide

Helps taxpayers sign into important online accounts so they can get the documents they need to file their tax returns.Requires approximately 10 hrs of self-paced training.

Volunteer Requirements

No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn
Attend New Volunteer Orientation
Complete volunteer training either virtually or in-person
Pass open book IRS volunteer certification exams
Pass background check
Minimum 4 hours/week commitment during tax season (late-Jan. to mid-Apr.)

Comfortable working with people of all races, ages, nationalities, immigration statuses, abilities, religions, sexual orientations and gender identities
Strong communication skills and the ability to handle challenging interactions with a kind and patient demeanor
